TWCA Football Cruises to Win over Legacy in Season Opener
It's always a good feeling to win your first game of the season.
The Warriors did that, and some, with a 62-13 rout of rival Legacy Christian to start their season 1-0.
TWCA jumped out to an early 13-6 lead in the first quarter, and expanded that lead to 34-13 by halftime. The Warriors never looked back, and outscored the Lions 28-0 in the second half led by a stout defensive effort.
Offensively, junior quarterback Josh Johnson finished the game going 9-16 for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns. He added 38 yards and two scores on the ground as well. Senior Blake Wiley caught two touchdown passes and added a rushing score as well. Junior Roric Hawkins led the team with 90 rushing yards on 9 carries (10 ypc).
On defense, senior Dereck Felder stole the show with three interceptions, two tackles and an assisted tackle for loss. Fellow senior Gio Awasum led the Warrior D with seven tackles. Junior DB Jacob Rios added six tackles and three pass deflections. Overall, the Warrior defense forced five fumbles (recovered three) and had three INTs for a total of six forced turnovers.
TWCA (1-0) travels to DFW this week to face-off with Fort Worth Trinity Valley (0-1) on Friday, September 3rd at 7 p.m.
