Band
Beginner Band
Beginner band is tailored for 5th and 6th-grade students who are eager to embark on a musical journey through the exploration of musical instruments including brass, woodwind, and percussion. This foundational course is designed to introduce students to the world of music, focusing on the development of instrumental techniques and skills essential for a successful musical experience.
The key objectives of the program are:
- Instrumental Proficiency: Develop basic instrumental skills and techniques specific to the chosen instrument, including proper playing posture, embouchure, hand positions and percussion rudiments.
- Music Literacy: Introduce fundamental music theory concepts such as notation, rhythm, dynamics, and basic terminology. Establish a foundation for reading and interpreting musical notation.
- Instrument Selection and Exploration: Allow students to explore and select an instrument that aligns with their interests and abilities. Provide guidance and support in making informed choices regarding instrument selection.
- Ensemble Playing: Emphasis will be placed on collaborative learning through ensemble playing. Students will have the opportunity to participate in various band performances, fostering teamwork, communication and a sense of musical community.
- Performance Opportunities: Regular performances, including concerts and other events, will showcase the students’ musical achievements. These experiences will help build confidence, stage presence, and a sense of accomplishment.
- Cultivation of a Love for Music: Foster a positive and enjoyable musical experience that instills a love for music. Encourage students to develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
- Integration of Faith: Band will integrate a love for God and the talents that He has given to each student. Students will learn to express their faith through future musical endeavors.
Beginning Band at The Woodlands Christian Academy, aims to inspire a lifelong love of music, foster artistic expression, and instill the qualities of discipline and dedication. Students will learn that music is meant to encourage, uplift and even heal the human spirit. Ultimately, it is meant to give glory to God.
Warrior Band
Warrior Band offers students in 7th-12th grade the opportunity to participate in a musical journey through instrumental performance. This program engages students, to cultivate a deep appreciation for music, foster teamwork and develop their Creative talent through musical instruments.
Throughout the year, students will explore various aspects of music theory, technique, and ensemble playing. The class is structured to accommodate students of different skill levels, from beginners to those with prior musical experience. Warrior Band will cover a diverse range of musical genres, providing students with a well-rounded musical education.
Key components of band are:
- Instrumental Instruction: Students will receive expert guidance and instruction on their chosen instruments, including, brass, woodwind, and percussion.

Choir
Warrior Choir students strive for musical excellence, performing at TWCA events and for The Woodlands community. Throughout the year, students refine their music reading skills and artistic expression through choral singing. Choir members are exposed to diverse vocal techniques in contemporary, period, sacred, and pop/show choir styles, while also focusing on solo vocal proficiency. The curriculum emphasizes music theory, sight-reading, and the continuous development of musicianship. Students will perform in concerts throughout the year and compete in regional and state competitions. We invite you to join our Warrior Choir Family at all our events!
Dance
5/6th Grade Dance Intro: This class provides the foundation in dance technique, terminology, choreography, injury prevention/conditioning and performance. Students explore various dance genres including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and musical theatre. Students will not only develop their dance abilities, but also their strength and flexibility. This course instills discipline, dedication, teamwork, creativity, and memorization skills. Intro to Dance students perform at least two routines at the dance concert at the end of the year. This is a full year class for 5th and 6th grade. No previous dance experience required. Full Year Course.
5/6th Grade Dance Team (Jr. Warrior Dancers): This class will be for 5th and 6th graders that have had previous dance experience. The students will get to work on developing their dance technique as well as work on different dance performance skills needed for the 7th-12th grade dance team. This course instills discipline, dedication, teamwork, creativity, and memorization skills. Students will have the opportunity to perform at a couple of school events throughout the year. 5th and 6th Grade Dance Team will perform at least two routines at the dance concert at the end of the year. Must have instructor approval. Full Year Course.
7-12th Grade Dance Intensive: This class will be focused on Jazz, Tap, and Ballet techniques. Students will develop technical skills, increase strength and flexibility, work on injury prevention by conditioning, as well as work on their performance quality. This course instills discipline, dedication, creativity, and memorization skills. Dance Intensive Students will perform at least two routines for the dance concert at the end of the year. Students must have instructor approval. Full Year Course.
7-12th Grade Dance Team (Warrior Dancers): TWCA Dance Team! Our dance team will meet during school as a class. This class is for those that love to dance and show off their skills with performance! Students will do many different styles of dances (jazz, kick line, contemporary, etc.) and will focus on learning dances to perform at various events throughout the year. They will have the opportunity to dance at events including pep rallies, athletic events, and Chapel. This course instills discipline, dedication, teamwork, creativity, and memorization skills. Students strive for the highest level of dance performance. The Warrior Dance Team will perform at least two dances in the Dance Concert at the end of the year. Full Year Course. Audition Required.
9-12th Advanced Dance: This is the advanced dance class at TWCA. The class will focus on dance technique, injury prevention/conditioning, choreography, and performance in styles such as ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and musical theatre. Students will be able to develop a high degree of technical ability and expressive range. This course instills discipline, dedication, teamwork, creativity, and memorization skills. The class will have opportunities to perform at various events throughout the year, such as during Chapel, and will perform at least two routines in the dance concert at the end of the year. Audition required. Full Year Course.
Musical Theatre Production: Musical Theatre Production aims to help students interested in theatre become well-rounded actors and performers. All class members will participate in the school musical, necessitating a time commitment beyond regular school hours. In the fall, students will enhance their acting, vocal, and dance skills through the production process of a musical. In the spring, they will partake in various performance experiences, including acting scenes, choral and musical numbers, as well as elaborate Broadway-style dance routines. The goal of this course is to instill essential qualities that performers need for success in all aspects of life, including discipline, dedication, teamwork, creativity, and memorization skills. Full Year Course. Audition Required
Speech/Debate
Middle school students in 8th grade can elect to take speech class, potentially earning high school credit for the course. The primary purpose of this one semester course is to teach students to speak clearly and precisely in front of a group. They will learn the speech format and perform informative, persuasive, and demonstration speeches.
High school students will learn the Lincoln Douglas style of Debate. The students will be able to write affirmative and negative cases based on the State Topics. They will study current events and cross apply them to be successful in extemporaneous and oratorial speaking.
Debate II students may earn honors credit.
Lower School Music
Fall Semester - Musical Theatre
The Lower School Musical Theatre Program exposes students to a variety of spiritual truths through music, drama, and dance. Students are given the opportunity to explore their creative interests and talents. All lower school students perform in the Grand Days, Christmas, and Spring Musical productions.
Spring Semester - Music Theory
Music Theory is an exciting part of our Lower School Fine Arts curriculum. Students learn to read music and transfer that knowledge to playing the piano keyboard. The vocabulary, knowledge, and skills that are learned in Music Theory are building blocks to the next phase of music learning in Middle School and High School at TWCA.
Theatre
Warrior theatre students will learn about all aspects of theatre from acting, design, theatre history, directing and so much more. They will grow in confidence and ability as they increase their creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
Fifth/Sixth grade theatre class introduces theatre, games, improvisation, characterization, and the opportunity to audition, prepare, and perform in a beginning musical at the end of the second semester.
Seventh/Eighth grade theatre class introduces dramatic acting with music and movement. Students will learn how to perform acting scenes with characterization, and improvisation.
This course focuses on building confidence and nurturing talent. Students can participate in TAPPS competitions.
High School Theatre Class provides students with an introduction to theatre techniques. They will have the opportunity to explore pantomime, impromptu acting scenes, skits, monologues, and duet acting scenes. They will read and analyze plays and write some of their own material.
