The Woodlands Christian Academy (TWCA) is announcing the opening of a new $10.8 million Fine Arts Educational Building and a soon-to-be-completed outdoor amphitheater. The new facility will be open at TWCA on Tuesday, August 13, at the start of the school year.
The 22,585 square foot, one-story Fine Arts Education Building, now named The Benjamin Wells School of the Arts, is the latest addition to the school’s 40-acre campus. The facility accommodates fine arts specialties, including theatre, band, choir, dance, and the visual arts. Features include the largest black box theatre (4,225 square feet) in the Houston area with the ability to seat up to 300-400 in a variety of configurations, an art studio, a dance studio, a choir hall, a band hall, and multiple spaces for displaying student artwork, dressing rooms, storage areas, a lobby/reception area, and state-of-the-art technology to support a variety of performances, digital art (LED board), and more!
“I am so grateful for the generous support of our families and friends. Adding this learning space will further enable our students to grow as leaders for Christ and to flourish - spiritually, intellectually, creatively, physically, and socially,” Head of School, Julie Ambler said.
“Our goal is to provide a state-of-the-art learning center where students can explore multiple avenues of creative expression, attain proficiency and pursue excellence in their areas of interest, and build confidence in themselves.”
Phil Sweger, Director of Fine Arts, stated, “I want to thank everyone who made this opening possible. The Benjamin Wells School of the Arts will accommodate the growing needs of our Fine Arts Department and serve current and future students in our Middle and High school, preparing the next generation to serve Christ’s eternal kingdom.”
The ceremonial groundbreaking was held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. A private opening reception was held on Friday, August 9, 2024, followed by an “open house” for the TWCA community on Monday, August 12, at the school’s annual Warrior Nation Night.
The Woodlands Christian Academy affirms the Biblical teaching that God is a creative God who created each of us in His image. Therefore, TWCA believes He wants their students to appreciate His creation while they discover and develop their creative gifts and talents. A rich fine arts curriculum can become integral to a student’s well-rounded education and provide a powerful opportunity to glorify God.
