Lower School at The Woodlands Christian Academy

Grades 1-4

As a parent, giving your child a strong start on their educational journey is one of your highest priorities. You want them to thrive academically and build a strong foundation for future learning, while also growing spiritually during these formative years. Research shows that a child’s moral foundation is largely set by age 9, making it essential to choose a school that aligns with the biblical principles you instill at home.

As you explore Christian elementary schools in Texas, we invite you to learn more about what sets The Woodlands Christian Academy apart, including:

Experience a Joyful Learning Community That Feels Like a Second Home

At Woodlands Christian, your child will experience more than just academic excellence—they will be nurtured in a vibrant community where experiential learning and faith formation go hand in hand. Our passionate teachers are committed to individualized education and meaningful discipleship, ensuring that every child develops a love for learning rooted in Christ.

When you walk through our hallways each morning, warmth radiates as teachers and students exchange greetings, hugs, handshakes, and high fives. It is easy to see why our Head of School refers to Lower School as “the happy place,” — joy, laughter, and excitement are contagious. Daily morning fellowship meetings allow for deeper community building as students start the day by sharing, praying, reciting the pledges, and exploring how they can apply what they are learning to the world around them.

There is a strong emphasis on Christian character traits and embodying the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. At the end of the school year, each student receives a Christian character award that represents the area in which they experienced the most growth — a cherished milestone moment.

"One of the things I love about the school is the K-12 campus, and the impact that seeing “big kids” be open about their faith, strive to be their best and lift others around them on the way has. At every interaction, in every way, every single day, this school and this community is building amazing sons and daughters to send out into the world."

Personalized Education Builds a Strong Foundation

One of our key commitments in the Lower School is maintaining optimal class sizes in which students feel known, heard, and nurtured. Differentiated instruction is a daily occurrence. Students who are ready to grow and stretch are challenged accordingly, and those who need extra time to master a concept receive support as needed. This all occurs in a dynamic environment that incorporates small group learning, interactive projects, and individualized attention from two expert educators — one lead teacher and one support teacher per class. Students feel like they are working on the same thing, but teachers are continually meeting each child where he or she is.

At the Lower School level, core skills are developed in:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Bible & Christian Development

Enrichments That Unlock Potential

Lower school students enjoy a well-rounded education that is developmentally appropriate and inspires them to explore what they love. In grades 1-4, specials include P.E. (daily), Spanish, Music, and Art. Additionally, a weekly STEM lab hones critical thinking skills, and regular library visits foster a love for reading.

Learning and exploration continue after school with a variety of enrichment activities and Lower School clubs. We offer Warrior Leagues (an athletic skill-building program with opportunities to learn the fundamentals of a variety of sports), as well as:

  • Art Club
  • Honor Choir
  • Chess Club
  • Piano Lessons
  • Cheerleading
  • Growing Godly Guys Club
  • Growing Godly Girls Club
  • STEM Club

Allowing our Lower School students to explore athletics, the arts, and leadership opportunities prior to middle and high school is one of the things that makes TWCA unique. Opportunities such as Safety Patrol and Mighty Warriors provide a sense of purpose and community on campus as students serve as positive role models. We even have a Lower School newspaper, produced entirely by students in grades 1-4!

An Unwavering Commitment to Student Safety

When you drop your child off at Woodlands Christian, we want you to have peace of mind that they are learning in the safest environment available. From investing in campus security and surveillance technology to employing a full-time Director of Safety and two campus police officers, student safety is our highest priority.

Our Pre-K through fourth grade students share one building, and team teachers ensure that no child is left alone during the day; there is always someone to walk with them and see that they arrive where they need to be.

Going beyond physical safety, our Lower School Guidance Counselor and Christian Development Leader play an active role in the classroom to foster a socially and emotionally safe atmosphere. Grade-level lessons are tailored to needs shared by teachers and provide students with new vocabulary and skills to promote relationship-building, wise decision-making, and healthy conflict resolution.

Integrated Spiritual Opportunities

At TWCA, even our youngest students learn what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It is our goal to help them think beyond the walls of their classroom — considering how they can be a light in a broken world. Here are a few heartwarming stories from our Lower School service projects:

Loving Like Jesus Does

First graders wrote persuasive essays to the Head of School, highlighting the benefits of a playground “Buddy Bench.” Their project was approved, and now seating decorated with scripture provides a space where students can rest if they get hurt, feel lonely, worried, or simply don’t know who to play with. It is inspiring to see our students immediately go and join anyone on the Buddy Bench, sharing God’s love and exemplifying community.

Serving Others Near and Far

Second grade students eagerly anticipate our annual shoe drive, Shoes4Souls. All students contribute shoes and clothing to children experiencing homelessness, eliminating a common barrier to education. Shoes have been sent to Haiti, Brazil, and many other countries, and TWCA students are eager to learn how and where their ministry made an impact.

Caring for Families Experience Cancer

Providing Fresh Food to Those in Need

Our fourth graders are passionate about helping stock The Woodlands community food pantry each year. Partnering with Interfaith Ministries, students visit the community garden and harvest fresh fruits and vegetables for families experiencing food insecurity. It’s an incredible opportunity to learn how God provides.

Parent Involvement

TWCA’s Parent Association is a group of active, engaged families who desire to be involved in their children’s school life. There are opportunities for every schedule — from serving as a mystery reader in the classroom to helping decorate campus for Christmas after school. Parents play a vital role in our community, sharing their gifts and talents to chaperone field trips, enrich education through cultural or professional knowledge, or simply by showing up for the students during milestone moments.

Whether you find a place in Muffins with Moms, All in Dads, or one of our other parent-led initiatives, we trust that you’ll find a village unlike any other at TWCA.
