Lower School
Distinguishing The Woodlands Christian Academy from other area schools is a college-preparatory program that emphasizes spiritual development and character growth. In addition to the core academic program, the school provides instruction in foreign language, computer, science, art, physical education, choir, band and drama.
The Pre-Kindergarten program (3 and 4 year olds) provides an academically based, loving learning environment in which the potential of each child can be realized in a developmentally appropriate manner.
Pre-First is a unique, full-day program within the Lower campus available for those students who need a bridge year between Kindergarten and 1 st grade to ensure future success.
The Lower Campus Kindergarten through 6 th grade follows an integrated curriculum approach organized around the principle that language is central to learning. Language Arts curriculum includes Shurley Grammar. Reading is phonics-based and builds a strong foundation in grammar and, most especially, a love of literature. Our math program fosters a positive attitude toward computation and is developed through the use of manipulative and problem solving games. The science curriculum fosters a sense of curiosity about the natural world, while social studies creates an awareness of human society.
Within the Lower campus we prepare our 5 th and 6 th grade students for the rigorous academics of a college-preparatory Upper Campus. We call this the Gateway program. In addition to the core subjects of literature, grammar, mathematics, science and history there is a particular emphasis on leadership, and the study and organizational skills needed to be successful in college-preparatory secondary education.
